Roscoe's Junktown Saloon - Detroit, Michigan (Gay Bar)

Roscoe's Junktown Saloon (Now closed) was located at 5601 W Fort St in Detroit. I do remember going there a few times. It was in a really cool old building that probably had been a bar for years. Unfortunately, it was kind of off the beaten path. If you have any stories about the bar, please post!

  1. Actually the bar had been in John's family for quite some time and became quite the hot spot many kids came from far away and on any night you could meet anyone with a smile the atmosphere was very eclectic mixing antique's with old art deco and industrial the booths were huge and very red 1950's metallic and a neon wulitzer jukebox played the tunes which sat on a checkered tile floor Dale the bartender was always there to say hello and chat even if you were a stranger, Sorry but I have been to many other bars but they will never have the atmophere that Roscoe"s had

It was unforseen circumstance's that closed the bar I salute you John and Joe for that oasis, and I have many picture's and great memories of the halloween parties and the New Years Eve parties and I will never forget what I did on the back patio!(or is it who)lol...

  2. I will never forget the last Christmas Junktown was open I had met many people there and one fell deeply in love with me,but I didn't love him but we continued to share intimate times together, so that Christmas I came into the bar and this guy (D) had bought several gifts for some of his friends including me but It would be a sad Christmas for me as (D) committed sucicide a few days later in his car (D) was from Canada and went into his garage got into his 1959 corvette and aspxiated himself,I was devastated if only I had read the signs and I still have the burgundy shirt and gray slacks he bought me He will always be remembered as a great guy (D) why why somehow I feel my rejection caused his demise R.I.P (D)

  3. By the way (D) was also a very attractive guy and was very well equipped (if you know what I mean)he had everything a person could achieve good looks tall and always well dressed (no jeans for this guy)but one thing money can't buy is love though he searched and searched as we all do for someone to care, Please take a closer at the guy who falls for you and wants you in his life because you may never see him again......................................

    1. Well, he fell deeply in love with me, too, at least he thought he did. He also bought stuff for me, mainly clothes. One of the bartenders, Victor, told me that the guy was crazy about me. Like you, I thought he was nice but I didn't really have feelings for him. I was, however, stunned when he committed suicide. I heard he was angry with his dad about something and killed himself.

  4. I remember Joe very well. I only went there a few times but I always liked going there and the staff was very friendly. Any idea what ever happened to Joe?

  6. Before becoming Roscoe's, it was the Fort-Junction Bar. Great owners and friendly place.
