The Malebox - Detroit, Michigan (Gay bar)


The Malebox (Now closed) is located at 3537 E 7 Mile Rd in Detroit. The Malebox has been open for about 16 years. It was foreclosed on about a year ago and bought by the owner of the Gold Coast and re-opened. They have a small dance floor and they have a wet jockey shorts contest on Tues and Fridays. The Malebox was re-opened by owner Bill in Warren and is called MB II. I have a separate post for the new bar. Also check out my other blog: motorgay.net

    It could be a fun place at times. As of this writing (3/8/10) the bar has been closed.

    The bar has been there for years, I remember it back in the late 70's and all through the 80's I have never heard of any problems at the bar or with any of the patrons in the surrounding area. I grew up E. Outer Drive and Conant. I went to that bar back then and you could find some hot rugged white boys there and surprisingly The Mailbox has always attracted a lot of out of towners. I have my stories both in and out of that place. BTW the Mailbox has been there longer then 16 years if you are going by the posted date of the this blog. :)

    I grew up On Norwood which is a few streets east of the malebox, and never heard of any "gay bashing " by anyone!!, It used be a called "The Caboose" a long time ago circa 1970's. Its too bad it was closed down..

    The Malebox used to have drag shows and contests back in the mid 1990's. Lady T was the the resident DQ and would host their wet jockey short contest.

    I first went there back in 2003. That's when I was blown away by Serena Escevelle. No other drag queen can hold a candle to her. I used to really like that place. It was friendly and everyone kinda knew each other.
