But I got scared off when a creepy European type guy tried to pick me up and never went back. So much for my dedication to sociological research. It was heaven on earth for gay teens in the 50s and 60s, the only island in a sea of ridicule. The parade survived the Hub's closing in the early 1960s by a few years. When the hustling walkway along Monroe declined as the block declined, and gays emerged into the sunlight, the Hub somehow lost its luster. It's been a parking lot for some time now. If anyone has photos of the Hub, would appreciate one.
