  1. The CCW was located on the West Side of Detroit in an area called Warrendale, at the south west corner of Warren and Mansfield. About a half mile east of GiGi's Lounge. It carried a Country Western motifs. I remember they had a jukebox filed with a lot of country western and dance club music. Owned by a very friendly couple,Bill & Jay it had a more cowboy / leather clientele sometimes. I have many fond memories of weekends doing the circuit of west side bars... the Silver Star,Haloft Saloon and the CCW.
Later Bill and Jay opened Jay Jay's Lounge on West Bound West Seven Mile just East of Evergreen Rd.. within the first year Jay Jay's Lounge was Robbed and Patrons held hostage for quite some time. Customers were beaten and sodomized during the hostage incident.
Jay Jay's closed soon afterwards. Not much later Bill and Jay closed The CCW Bar due to the extensive renovations needed to keep the building up to code. Bill and Jay retired to Florida soon afterwards. The passing of these establishments left a hole not easily filled for a place to relax and have a good time with the many people that had been friends and who I lost touch with. I came out during this time. It will always be fondly remembered. It's one of the places that tought me how to become the gay man I am all these many years later. R.H.

  3. I think I went there once. I can't remember the name, but it was on Warren on the far west side, not far from Southfield Fwy. It was like 81, maybe 82.

I remember sitting at the bar and there was an older black guy who was hitting on me pretty hard. I wasn't really all that interested but he worked hard to close the deal. At one point he called himself an "asshole bandit," which was the first and only time I ever heard that expression.
